Stauff SMPF Pressure Filters

The Stauff SMPF Pressure Filters are specifically designed for in-line hydraulic applications, supporting a maximum operating pressure of 110 bar. Manufactured with a lightweight yet durable aluminum alloy head and bowl, they provide a nominal flow rate of up to 90 l/min. These filters ensure high contaminant removal efficiency thanks to compatibility with Stauff filter elements. They operate within a temperature range from −25°C to +110°C and are supplied with standard NBR seals.

Description

SMPF Series Overview

The Stauff SMPF Pressure Filter series represents an advanced solution for medium-pressure filtration, designed for in-line installation within hydraulic circuits. These components are engineered to handle a maximum operating pressure of 110 bar (1600 PSI), with a certified burst pressure of 300 bar (4350 PSI), ensuring safety and reliability even under demanding operating conditions. Efficient removal of fluid contaminants is ensured through compatibility with original Stauff filter elements.

Design Features and Materials

The construction of Stauff SMPF Pressure Filters combines robustness with low weight. Both the filter head and the bowl are made of high-quality aluminum alloy. Sealing is provided as standard by NBR (Buna-N®) seals, suitable for use with mineral oils. The compact design allows installation in confined spaces, with connections available in BSP (G1/2) or SAE O-ring thread (3/4-16), depending on the filter size (SMPF 015 or SMPF 025).

Filter Element Specifications (SME Series)

SMPF filters use SME series filter elements, designed to withstand a collapse differential pressure of 20 bar in accordance with ISO 2941. Two main types of filter media are available to meet different fluid cleanliness requirements:

  • Inorganic glass fiber (Code E): Ideal for fine and deep filtration, available with micron ratings of 3, 5, 10, and 20 µm.
  • Stainless steel wire mesh (Code S): Used for coarser filtration, with a filtration rating of 60 µm.

Flow Management and Safety Systems

The SMPF series handles flow rates of up to 90 l/min (25 US GPM), although the exact flow rate depends on the selected filter element. To protect both the system and the filter element, the filters can be equipped with an integrated bypass valve. This valve has a standard opening pressure of 6 bar ±10%, allowing unfiltered oil to bypass a contaminated element once this threshold is reached, preventing structural damage.

Clogging Monitoring

For effective predictive maintenance, Stauff SMPF Pressure Filters support the installation of differential clogging indicators. Visual (HIM-V) and electrical (HIM-VE) options are available. These devices are set to actuate at a differential pressure of 5 bar ±10%. This setting is strategically lower than that of the bypass valve (6 bar), enabling the operator to replace the clogged filter element before bypass opening occurs, thus ensuring continuous optimal filtration.
