MP Filter Series FZPEX ATEX

The MP Filter Series FZPEX ATEX is a high-pressure in-line filter made of AISI 316L stainless steel, designed to protect sensitive components in systems operating under harsh environmental conditions or with corrosive fluids. It ensures a maximum operating pressure of 420 bar and flow rates up to 160 l/min. ATEX-certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, it is ideal for offshore applications and water filtration.

Description

The in-line filters of the FZP family, specifically models FZP 039 and FZP 136, are developed to ensure maximum reliability and safety in potentially explosive atmospheres, holding ATEX certification. The head, filter body (housing), and any bypass valve are entirely manufactured from AISI 316L stainless steel. This robust structural design ensures optimal protection when operating with corrosive fluids and in marine or highly aggressive environments. The MP Filter Series FZPEX ATEX withstands a maximum operating pressure of 42 MPa (420 bar) and is tested for a test pressure of 630 bar and a minimum burst pressure of 1260 bar. Pulsating pressure fatigue tests confirm resistance for 1,000,000 cycles from 0 to 420 bar. The filters are installed vertically and connected directly to system lines through hydraulic fittings. The maximum achievable flow rate is 160 l/min, supported by female threaded connections up to 1 1/4″.

Monitoring and Dimensions

Filter clogging status is detected through differential pressure indicators, available in visual (DVX, DVY) and electrical/electronic (DEH) versions. In terms of dimensions, model FZP 039 features a weight ranging from 4.5 kg to 5.6 kg with volumes from 0.19 to 0.34 dm³, while the larger model FZP 136 has a weight between 8.3 kg and 11.5 kg with internal volumes from 0.45 to 1.00 dm³.

Filter Elements and Valves

The hydraulic flow passes through the filter element moving from outside to inside (OUT to IN). The system may integrate a bypass valve, calibrated to open at 6 bar (±10%), whose function is to relieve excessive pressure drop (Δp) across the filter media. Filter elements are divided into three series based on collapse resistance:

  • Series R: Low collapse (20 bar) equipped with external support, essential for protecting the element against back pressure or reverse flow in filters equipped with a bypass valve.
  • Series S: High collapse (210 bar) with external support, intended for filters without a bypass valve.
  • Series U: High collapse (210 bar), fully manufactured with stainless steel components to resist attack from particularly aggressive fluids.

The filter media use inorganic microfiber to ensure excellent cleanliness levels, with filtration ratings available in 3 μm, 6 μm, 10 μm, 16 μm, and 25 μm.

Fluid Specifications and ATEX Certifications

The sealing material configuration determines the operating temperature range and ATEX certification class.

  • With standard NBR seals (series A), the filter handles fluids from -15°C to +80°C (Class T6, maximum surface temperature T85°C), achieving marking II 3G Ex h IIC T6 Gc X / II 3D Ex h IIIC T85°C Dc X in zerospark+ configuration.
  • The use of FPM or MFQ seals extends the fluid thermal tolerance up to +110°C, raising the ATEX classification to Class T4 (maximum surface temperature T115°C) and enabling use in industrial environments with more severe thermal gradients.

These specifications make the series essential in offshore machinery and water filtration systems.
