The FOX MPX Series Flat Diaphragm Pulsation Dampener represents an advanced technical solution for damping pulsations within complex hydraulic and process systems. The body of the device is entirely manufactured from AISI 316 L stainless steel, a material selected to provide significant corrosion resistance and long-term reliability. The internal flat diaphragm is made of PTFE, known as Teflon, ensuring excellent chemical compatibility and consistent performance even under repeated mechanical stress. The accumulator is extremely versatile to install, as it is designed to operate effectively in any position. The standard integrated nitrogen valve features a unified 5/8″ UNF connection.

Operating Principle and Mechanical Life

To ensure optimal use as a pulsation dampener, the nitrogen precharge pressure must be accurately calculated, strictly remaining within a range between 60% and 80% of the actual working pressure. This value must be determined by carefully considering the type of pump used in the circuit and the operating temperatures of the fluid. The mechanical life of the component directly depends on the conditions of use, as the number of operating cycles is inversely proportional to the increase in the compression ratio. The maximum working pressure supported under operating conditions, indicated as PS, is 150 bar, while the test pressure PT is calculated by applying international standard coefficients, equal to PS multiplied by 1.43, 1.3, or 1.5.

Dimensional and Volumetric Specifications

The models in the range differ in structural dimensions and volumetric capacities, allowing precise sizing for various industrial contexts. Overall heights range from 205 millimetres for the most compact model, with a capacity of 1.5 litres, up to 470 millimetres for the 12-litre version. The external diameter is kept at 200 millimetres for smaller models, while it is 300 millimetres for variants from 5.5 litres upward. The hydraulic connection includes BSP female threaded ports of one and a half inches for smaller models and two inches for larger-volume dampeners. The structural weight scales proportionally, starting from 35 kilograms and reaching 110 kilograms in the largest format. The maximum permitted nitrogen precharge is set at 105 bar for the entire MPX series.

Customizations and Construction Variants

The series offers extensive configuration possibilities to meet specific design requirements. The external body can be painted according to standard FOX procedures or specific technical guidelines. Connection options extend to SAE 3000, SAE 6000, ANSI B16.5, and UNI/DIN flanges, as well as API Spec. 6A type 6BX, Autoclave, Grayloc, and integrated flange connections. Versions for pressures higher than the standard rating, constructions in exotic materials or carbon steel, and special volumes sized on request are available. For the food and pharmaceutical sectors, the device can be supplied with an FDA-certified flat diaphragm and a lapped or electropolished finish. A dual single-diaphragm configuration for inline fluid flow or a double sandwich diaphragm integrated with a rupture detector managed by pressure switch, pressure transmitter, pressure gauge, or piston can also be provided.

Certifications and International Standards

Upon explicit request, the component can be manufactured and tested in full compliance with multiple international standards. These include CE PED and ATEX directives, ASME VIII Div. 1 or Div. 2 standards with U-Stamp and NB, EN 14359, EN 13445, and PD5500. The list also extends to territorial certifications for global export, such as KOSHA, SELO, CU-TR, DOSH, NR-13, CRN, and technical approvals by naval registers and bodies such as BV, DNV/RINA, Lloyd’s, and ABS.
