Introduction and Basic Configuration

The STAUFF Insert (Type ES / EP – Standard Series) is an essential component in hydraulic pipework fastening systems. Designed according to industry standards, these inserts are specifically developed for use in combination with hexagon head bolts (Type AS). Their use ensures stable positioning and optimal distribution of the clamping force within Standard Series clamps. The range covers STAUFF Groups 1 to 8, which correspond exactly to DIN Groups 0 to 8 (in accordance with DIN 3015, Part 1), offering extensive versatility for different installation configurations.

Construction Features and Material Specifications

The insert range is divided into two main types according to the construction material, identified by the codes EP and ES. The Type EP insert is made of polypropylene, a polymer that offers low weight and durability for standard applications. Type ES inserts, on the other hand, are made of metal alloys and are available in two main material variants:

• ES-W3: Made of Carbon Steel with a zinc/nickel-plated surface treatment. This finish provides a high level of corrosion protection in standard industrial environments.
• ES-W5: Made of V4A Stainless Steel, ideal for applications in highly corrosive environments or where maximum chemical resistance standards are required.

Technical Dimensions and Tolerance Parameters

The dimensional specifications are strictly standardised to ensure perfect compatibility with the clamp bodies and Type AS bolts. For all material variants and all groups (STAUFF Groups 1 to 8 / DIN Groups 0 to 8), the reference diameters remain constant:

• Outside Diameter (D1): 11.8 mm
• Inside Diameter (D2): 6.5 mm

The height of the insert varies depending on the selected material in order to compensate for the different mechanical and compression characteristics. The height of the ES metal inserts (H_ES) is set at 7.8 mm, while the height of the EP polypropylene insert (H_EP) is 8.6 mm.

Compatibility and Fastening Systems

EP and ES inserts are intended exclusively for use with Type AS hexagon head bolts manufactured in accordance with DIN 931/933 or ANSI/ASME B18.2.1. Depending on the system requirements, the corresponding threaded components may feature ISO metric threads (e.g. M6x27, M6x32) or Unified Coarse UNC threads (e.g. 1/4-20 UNC x 1-1/8). The integration of these inserts prevents damage to the clamp body during bolt tightening.
