Description

The STAUFF Cover Plate (Type GD – Twin Series) is an essential structural component for completing and securing pipe clamps in hydraulic installations. Designed in strict accordance with DIN 3015, Part 3, this upper cover plate ensures the uniform distribution of the clamping load across the clamp halves of the Twin Series. The use of this mechanical component ensures maximum stability of the pipework system, preventing loosening caused by the intense vibrations and hydraulic shocks typical of high-pressure circuits. The geometry of the plate allows the torque applied during assembly to be distributed evenly.

Compliance and Reference Standards

Type GD Twin Series cover plates are manufactured in full compliance with the international DIN 3015, Part 3 standard, confirming complete dimensional and structural compatibility with the corresponding STAUFF clamp range. The strict construction specifications include precise tolerances to ensure a perfect fit with STAUFF size Groups 1D to 5D, which correspond exactly to DIN Groups 1 to 5.

Construction Features and Dimensions

The shape of the plate is optimised to provide the maximum contact area on the clamp halves. Regardless of the relevant size group, all plates share a fixed width (parameter B) of 30 mm (1.18 inches), a thickness (parameter S) of 3 mm (0.12 inches) and a total height (parameter H) of 7 mm (0.28 inches). The overall length (parameter L) increases progressively according to the specific group, ranging from 34 mm for Group 1D up to 102 mm for Group 5D. The fastening hole diameter (ØD) is set at 7 mm exclusively for Group 1D, increasing to 9 mm for all subsequent groups from 2D to 5D.

Materials and Surface Treatments

To meet the most demanding environmental and operating requirements, the product is coded and available in three main material variants. The standard version, identified by code W3, is manufactured from zinc/nickel-plated carbon steel, designed to provide high corrosion resistance in standard industrial environments. For applications exposed to aggressive fluids, the W4 version is available in V2A stainless steel (1.4301 / 1.4305 and AISI 304 / 303). Finally, for the most extreme chemical and offshore applications, the W5 version is available in V4A stainless steel (1.4401 / 1.4571 and AISI 316 / 316 Ti). Additional alternative materials and special surface finishes can be supplied upon explicit request.

Fastening System and Hexagon Head Bolts

The plate is secured through the combined use of Type AS hexagon head bolts, fully compliant with DIN 931/933 or ANSI/ASME B18.2.1. Compatible threads include both ISO metric sizes, ranging from M6 to M8, and Unified Coarse UNC sizes, ranging from 1/4-20 to 5/16-18. The bolt shank length is directly proportional to the size group, ranging from the 35 mm required for Groups 1D and 2D up to 60 mm for Group 5D. To ensure galvanic compatibility throughout the system, the fastening bolts are also manufactured with the same material codes (W3, W4 and W5).
