Custom STAUFF Saddle Clamps

Custom STAUFF Saddle Clamps of the ZR Series allow direct fastening and guidance of pipes and flexible hoses on hydraulic cylinders without requiring welding or alteration of the surface coating. Manufactured from thermoplastic elastomer (73 Shore-A), they allow smaller-diameter pipes to be mounted on larger structures while providing completely free axial and radial positioning. They are an excellent solution for retrofit operations. The available standard family product code is: ZR-518-SA73-BK.

Custom STAUFF Saddle Clamps

Description

Custom STAUFF Saddle Clamps (Type ZR) provide a high-level technical solution for the direct fastening and secure guidance of rigid pipes, flexible hoses and lines on hydraulic cylinders, as well as on other structures with round or oval geometries. Their use ensures the complete structural integrity of the main component on which they are installed.

Operating Principle

The saddle system allows a pipe or flexible hose with a small outside diameter to be installed directly above a significantly larger component. This specific mounting architecture completely eliminates the need for invasive operations such as drilling, screw fastening or welding directly onto the supporting structure. The absence of mechanical and thermal processing on the cylinder prevents any damage to its structural strength and fully preserves the integrity of the original surface coatings, consequently reducing the time and costs associated with surface preparation or subsequent reworking.

Construction Features and Materials

The standard version of these technical components is identified by code ZR-518. The clamps are manufactured from a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer with a hardness of 73 Shore-A (identified by the technical designation SA73). The standard colour of the moulded polymer is black (BK). The properties of this elastomeric material ensure correct pipe retention and accommodate the stresses typical of hydraulic systems. The fastening straps required to complete the assembly (such as steel bands or worm-drive hose clamps compliant with DIN 3017) are not included in the standard product supply.

Benefits and Installation Flexibility

The clamp configuration provides excellent versatility during installation. The position of the clamp on the main structure can be freely adjusted both along the longitudinal axis (axially) and around the circumference (radially). This flexibility allows operators to adjust, modify or optimise the installation position at any time. This feature makes the clamps particularly suitable for retrofit applications, facilitating upgrades to existing hydraulic systems without requiring complex disassembly.

Dimensional Specifications

The standard ZR-518 model covers a clearly defined dimensional range to ensure maximum operating versatility. The component is compatible with supported pipes having an outside diameter (OD2) from 10 mm to 22 mm (corresponding to 0.39 – 0.87 inches). With regard to the underlying supporting structure (OD1), the clamp is suitable for cylinders with outside diameters ranging from 50 mm to 200 mm (1.96 – 7.87 inches). The total length of the required fastening strap must be carefully calculated according to the actual diameters involved in the installation. For specific industrial requirements, STAUFF can accommodate alternative needs by developing and manufacturing customised clamps based on customer specifications, technical drawings and models.
