AMI dual-axis proportional electrical joystick

Description

Operating Principle

The AMI dual-axis proportional electrical joystick is designed to ensure high-precision directional control on machinery equipped with complex hydraulic systems. The transduction of the mechanical movement of the lever into a proportional electrical signal ensures fluid and reactive management of the actuators. The device manages movements on the two main axes (North-South and East-West) with a standard excursion angle of 20 degrees per single axis. During combined movements (North+East, North+West, South+East, South+West), the operating angle extends up to 27 degrees, ensuring an optimized maneuvering area for diagonal operations. In the variant specifically dedicated to the control of VPF valves, the mechanical inclination angle of the lever is stably configured at 23 degrees for each direction, providing specific and precise tactile feedback for the operator.

Construction and Dimensional Features

From a mechanical point of view, the joystick has a robust structure suitable for industrial and mobile environments. The overall height of the joystick, measured from the flange plane, is 244 mm for the standard version and 233 mm for the VPF configuration. The fastening system is standardized through four mounting holes with a 7 mm diameter, positioned on a 90 mm circular pitch, compatible with external housing flanges of 103×103 mm (with an internal diametrical footprint of 100 or 108 mm). The dimensions of the lower base, which houses the onboard electronics (SK SENS and SK PWM modules), vary depending on the output signal: the A5V model has a total depth footprint (A) of 52 mm and a base module (B) of 31 mm, while the PWM version requires a larger footprint for dissipation and electronics, with dimension (A) equal to 96 mm and dimension (B) of 75 mm. The version for VPF valves integrates a 90 mm diameter in the base with a fixed component height of 60 mm.

Electrical Specifications and Output Signals

The electronic architecture of the AMI dual-axis proportional electrical joystick supports two main types of output signals to adapt to the different control logics of the hydraulic system. The first configuration delivers an analog voltage signal (A5V), ideal for direct wiring to primary processing units. The second variant processes a current PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal, with an operating range between a minimum current (Imin) of 100 mA and a maximum current (Imax) of 800 mA. This architecture requires an input supply voltage (Vin) between 8 and 32 Vdc and operates with a dither frequency (FDith) rigidly set at 100 Hz, a vital parameter for the reduction of mechanical hysteresis within the associated proportional valves. The operator interface of the VPF version is further enriched by the presence of two upper auxiliary buttons (P1 and P2) integrated into the grip, accompanied by the DM and RG functional modules.

Connection and Wiring Systems

To ensure maximum integrity of the electrical signal, the joystick wiring is structured to withstand the mechanical stresses of the harshest operating environments. The base model is supplied with a direct multipolar output cable, with a length of 500 mm. The specific version for VPF valves instead adopts an external protective sheath (Sheath) 200 mm long and uses an advanced industrial connection system based on Amphenol junction terminals. Specifically, the wiring branches into multiple sealed connectors, including the Amphenol AT04-6P, AT04-4P, AT04-12P models and the AT06-4S connector equipped with a protective closure plug, blocking the entry of dust and contaminating fluids.
