MP Filter SFSC Series

The MP SFSC Series Filter is a suction filter designed to protect downstream pumps from coarse contamination. Equipped with an integrated shut-off valve, it closes automatically when the cover is removed, allowing the filter element to be replaced without any fluid spillage. It supports maximum flow rates up to 700 l/min and can be installed laterally or below the minimum oil level in the tank. It is the ideal solution for industrial applications requiring design flexibility and high reliability.

MP Filter SFSC Series

Description

The suction filters of the MP SFSC Series family are designed for installation below the minimum oil level, directly connected to the suction line of the hydraulic pump. This configuration ensures optimal protection of the downstream pump against coarse contamination. The significant mounting flexibility allows for installation both laterally and below the tank, providing designers with great versatility in designing industrial hydraulic systems. The hydraulic fluid flow through the filter element flows from the inside to the outside (direction from IN to OUT). The main operational advantage of this series is the integrated shut-off valve, which automatically closes as soon as the cover is removed. This ingenious mechanism allows operators to replace the filter element (SSC series) without causing any fluid loss or spillage into the surrounding environment.

Construction Features and Available Models

The series covers a wide range of dimensional variants to meet different system needs: SFSC 500, 503, 504, 505, 510, 535, and 540. The filter body is made of anodized aluminum for most models, while versions designed for larger volumes (SFSC 535 and SFSC 540) use steel treated with chemical heat treatment. The cover and any optional hose fitting are also made entirely of anodized aluminum. The system can handle high flow rates, reaching a peak of 700 l/min through flanged connections up to 4 inches. It is also possible to opt for the installation of hose fittings to connect the suction line, thus eliminating the need to use standard flanges. The weight of the components varies depending on the size, from 4.2 kg for the 500 model to 18.6 kg for the 540 model, with internal volumes ranging from 1.6 dm³ to 6.5 dm³.

Technical Specifications, Materials, and Customizations

The standard filter element consists of a rigid metal mesh, available in different nominal filtration grades: 25, 60, 90, and 250 µm. The element ensures a standard collapse pressure of 1 bar. During operation, the maximum total pressure drop allowed for a new and clean filter in suction should not exceed 0.08 bar (1.15 psi). The sealing gaskets are provided as standard in NBR (Series A or W), but they are also available upon request in FPM (Series V or Z), allowing the component to operate safely within an extended temperature range from -25 °C to +110 °C. Optional equipment includes a magnetic column to effectively retain suspended ferrous particles, plastic or metal handles to manually close the valve before removing the cover, and electrical micro switches intended to signal the valve closure to the system. Continuous monitoring of the clogging status is ensured by compatibility with visual, electrical, and electronic indicators.

Sizing and Hydraulic Connections

For proper technical sizing, the maximum flow rates indicated are calculated for the complete suction filter assembly with a preset pressure drop of 0.08 bar, assuming the use of a hydraulic fluid with a kinematic viscosity of 30 mm²/s and a density of 0.86 kg/dm³. The SFSC series offers SAE 3000 psi flanged connections of varying diameter (from 2 inches for smaller models up to 4 inches for SFSC 504 and 540 versions) and a wide selection of hose fittings with diameters ranging from 63 mm to 114 mm, ensuring perfect integration into the circuit architecture. Maintenance and monitoring are further optimized by the provision of additional connections for clogging indicators, available on both sides of the filter body or in multiple configurations with metal closure caps.
