Operating Principle and Structure

The AMI 42C Directional Control Valve stands out in the hydraulic sector for its highly versatile sectional architecture. Built to accommodate from 1 to 10 sections, this component allows adapting the hydraulic circuit to specific system requirements. The standard version provides a left-hand inlet; however, the system features a reversible spool that easily enables right-hand inlet configuration. The spool also features negative overlap, ensuring an optimized transition passage during line switching. A further element of safety and precision is the presence of an integrated check valve in each individual section, which prevents unwanted backflow and stabilizes the load during operations. The directional valve is natively pre-arranged for pressure line carry-over via the CARRY-OVER system, making it expandable within complex circuits.

Construction Features and Performance

Engineered to withstand heavy duty cycles, the AMI 42C Directional Control Valve guarantees a nominal flow rate of 70 l/min and supports a maximum working pressure reaching 350 bar. The maximum return line backpressure is limited to 80 bar. Pressure control within the system is handled by an integrated standard main relief valve, finely adjustable within a range from 10 to 350 bar. For applications exposed to adverse atmospheric agents, an anti-rust treatment is available upon request to preserve valve body integrity. The device operates effectively across a wide temperature range, from a minimum of -30°C to a maximum of 80°C. Hydraulic sealing is rigorous: maximum spool leakage at 100 bar, calculated at a fluid temperature of 50°C and viscosity of 27 cSt, is only 20 ml/min.

Hydraulic Specifications and Threads

The connection interface of the directional control valve supports various thread types to adapt to multiple industrial standards. For P1-P2 ports, the standard thread is 1/2″ BSP, with options on request for 1/2″-14 NPT, 3/4″ BSP, and 18×1.5. A-B service ports maintain the standard 1/2″ BSP, with NPT and metric variants available. T1 and T2 tank ports, together with the carry-over (STC), use 3/4″ BSP threads as standard. Dedicated pilot controls are also available: 1/8″ BSP pneumatic and 1/4″ BSP hydraulic. Pressure drop tests, carried out with oil having a viscosity of 4°E at 50°C, demonstrate minimal energy dissipation both along the inlet-to-outlet path and through the service port passages. Component weight scales linearly with the number of installed sections, starting from a base of 8.900 kg for the single-section model (AMI 42C/1) and reaching 44.900 kg for the maximum 10-section configuration (AMI 42C/10). Overall dimensions are similarly scalable: length ranges from 130 mm to 535 mm, depending on the modular sections used.
