The FOX SL – SLX Series In-Line Tubular Diaphragm Pulsation Damper is a high-precision hydraulic component, developed for pulsation control and fluid stabilisation in high-pressure circuits. Designed to withstand severe operating conditions, this device is essential for preserving the mechanical integrity of pumps and piping, increasing the overall reliability of the hydraulic system.

Operating Principle and Mechanical Life

Optimal performance of the FOX SL – SLX Series In-Line Tubular Diaphragm Pulsation Damper is achieved by respecting specific compression parameters. The compression ratio recommended by the manufacturer is P2/P0=2.5 , while the maximum tolerated limit is set at P2/P0=10. It is essential to consider that the mechanical life of the component, expressed in number of cycles, is inversely proportional to the increase in the applied compression ratio. For correct use as a damper, the nitrogen pre-charge pressure must be strictly maintained between 60% and 80% of the working pressure. This calibration must take into account the type of pump installed and the operating temperature values. The standard nitrogen valve supplied is listed in the catalogue as %” UNF.

Construction Features

The damper structure is designed to ensure maximum strength and adaptability. The product line is divided into two main architectures:

  • SLX Series: Made with an AISI 316L stainless steel body. This variant is designed as a repairable series, facilitating the replacement of internal components.

  • SL Series: Built with a carbon steel body, supplied by the manufacturer exclusively as a non-repairable series. The operating core of the device consists of the bladder or tubular diaphragm, available in different elastomeric compounds to ensure chemical compatibility with multiple fluids: NBR, HNBR, EPDM and FPM.

Installation, Applications and Dimensional Variants

The component is designed for universal installation and can be effectively mounted in any position. In terms of pressure performance, the SLX model supports a maximum working pressure (PS) of 150 bar, while the SL model in carbon steel reaches 210 bar. The test pressures (PT) are established according to the regulatory multipliers PS x 1.43, 1.3 or 1.5.

Customisations and Hydraulic Connections

To meet specific system requirements, the outer body can be epoxy painted according to the standard FOX procedure or according to project specifications. Various connection configurations are also available, including:

  • SAE 3000 or SAE 6000 flange, ANSI B16.5, UNI/DIN.

  • API spec. connections 6A type 6BX.

  • Autoclave or Grayloc connections.

  • Integrated flange connections.

  • Versions in special exotic materials on request.

International Compliance and Regulations

The damper can be supplied, upon request, in compliance with a wide range of international certifications: CE (2014/68/EU-PED) , KOSHA for Korea , ATEX (2014/34/EU) , SELO for China, ASME VIII Div. 1 or Div.2 (Latest Edition) with U-Stamp+ NB , CU-TR 032/2013 for Russia , Malaysian DOSH , EN 14359 , PD5500 for the United Kingdom , EN 13445 , Brazilian NR-13 , Canadian CRN , as well as tests through bodies such as BV , AS1210/4343 for Australia , DNV/RINA , ARH for Algeria and Lloyd’s / ABS.
